I cannot believe I went from defending COD: WWII to now throwing it under the fucken bus due to Michael Condrey and Sledgehammer games garbage attitude to their fans and their handling of historical events surrounding WWII. Yes, you will now be able to play as a black female Nazi in multiplayer games. Let that sink in just for a minute, you will be able to play as a woman. When historically woman never fought on the front lines, and yes there are exceptions but they were never the norm. Furthermore, you will be playing as a black Nazi. I am not even fucken kidding you! The very same Nazi’s Germany where black people were rounded up and forcibly sterilized by Hitler, as well as subjected to medical experimentation and secret execution.
In Hitler’s own words: “the Jews had brought the Negroes into the Rhineland with the clear aim of ruining the hated white race by the necessarily-resulting bastardization” (Mein Kamf) When you start sacrificing historical accuracy for the sake of “diversity” you get garbage like this. When you promise fans a historically accurate game, or at least, as much as a COD game can ever be. But then turn around and include black female Nazi’s in multiplayer but removes the Nazi (Swastika) and replaces it with the iron cross. And I got to ask what is the fucken logic behind this move? As repulsive as I find the Swastika, removing it from context is a pretty big deal. It’s not minutiae, it’s not nitpicking, it’s a major detail. Especially for a game set in that era.
I feel like adding black female Nazi’s and removing the Swastika takes away from the reality of what happened during that time period removing all historical context. And if you are going to do that, why not just create your own story like Wolfenstein has? What is the point of having a historically accurate single player but throwing everything out the window for multiplayer? Games based on historical events should not shy away from the truth for the sake of political correctness or in fear of hurting a few peoples fragile feelings. And am I the only one who thinks that turning a blind eye to the atrocious acts of the Nazi’s, and airbrushing over them making them appear to be more progressive and inclusive is an insult to those who fought and died during WWII?
[Editorial Note:] Is this the next logical step for those who strive for political correctness? Rewrite history so it is more inclusive and less offensive?
