Got to love when radio DJ’s ascend their ivory tower to preach to us common folk from their little soap boxes, as is the case with Xolani Gwala a DJ from a local South African radio station 702. Who does not seem to understand symbolism so well, cartoonist Zapiro has released another cartoon that hit extremely close to home for the ANC, Jacob Zuma and Gupta brothers alliance and their continued “rape” of my country (South Africa):
And of course, the reaction to this was rather predictable as Xolani Gwala and most ANC supporters demonstrated. When they are incapable of understanding the symbolism and truth behind a cartoon they resort to pulling the race card quicker than a referee at a local rugby match:
And I really did not see the need for you to bring Zapiro’s race or gender into this either, he is just using it to hide his own ignorance. “White male…” Playing the race and gender card on someone who has been exemplary in pushing for a non-racial South Africa. Really Xolani?! Sorry to say, but if you do not understand symbolism, maybe you should not comment on such matters? And that means you are the last person to make themselves a self-appointed censor. And as they say: “A picture is worth a thousand words” and words cannot describe the current state South Africa is in, due to the interference of Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family. This really shouldn’t be that hard to figure out Xolani, Zuma is letting the Guptas rape, South Africa.
Having said that. This has nothing to do with being insensitive towards rape victims in the slightest but brings to the light the seriousness of our current predicament. Zapiro is doing an excellent job as a satirical cartoonist. He mixes humor, which is very dark sometimes with a depiction of real events, and this hits extremely close to home almost every time. Now don’t get me wrong it is a given that not everyone will see a cartoon in the same way. But when your opinion differs from a cartoonist’s point of view, the cartoonist does not have to be crucified, defend or self-censor his work because you lack the understanding to translate his cartoons. Zapiro is exercising his constitutionally right to free speech as a South African citizen, so suck it up buttercup.
