So this happened the past week, the Ghostbusters trailer is officially the most disliked trailer on Youtube, and as you might have guessed because “reasons”and misogyny. It’s not very hard to believe that the people who disliked the trailer, simply did not think that the trailer wasn’t funny and did not like it. Sure, there are a small minority of people trolling like pretty much everything online. But having said that honestly it just looks like garbage. It has a cast of actors no one cares about and is a reboot no one wanted or asked for in the first place.
It only ‘dares’ to have a strong female presence because right now it’s popular to jump on the ‘everyone-has-feelings-and-opinions-and-gosh-darn-it-they-matter’ wagon. Having an all-female cast adds nor subtracts nothing regarding the value of this remake. It’s just a cheap PR stunt in this wave of political correctness we are currently living in. I am rather surprised that more people haven’t caught on and realize this. You can’t just slap a female cast onto something and expect it to be absolved from any form of criticism on its merits or lack thereof, and then claim misogyny when it does happen.
Even Melissa McCarthy has come out and admitted that the movie is extremely confusing when compared to the original: “Believe me the question was asked,” she said. “I think that it’s very confusing. But then everyone said we don’t care what you think.” So sexism has nothing to do with it. The fact is, is that the trailer looks awful. I cannot point to a single scene that was shown in that trailer that came close to making me laugh or smile for that matter. Simply put it was painfully unfunny, everything felt completely forced and worst of all it completely disrespected everything the original Ghostbusters fans loved about it.
