Why the R-rated Killing Joke animated movie is important

The Killing Joke was an extremely influential and well known Batman graphic novel written by Alan Moore of Watchmen, V for Vendetta fame. And illustrated by Brian Bolland known for his work in Judge Dredd, and was released back in 1988. Basically  The Killing Joke was a Joker origin story of sorts, and is considered by many to be the quintessential Joker story to read. The reason why The Killing Joke was so extremely popular wasn’t only because it had a gripping story and incredible visual narrative, but it was also controversial due to the disturbing scenes it presented and the amount of violence it contained.
DTM5bxrAnd given how important and shocking these parts of the story was having the upcoming animated film receive an R rating means that the creative minds behind this new animated movie are able to include those pieces as they were meant to be witnessed without having to censor, edit or flat out remove them. Also given that The Killing Joke is headed by the same legendary team that was behind the popular animated Batman television series and will feature both the voices of Mark Hamill as the Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman, this in itself is why you should be excited for the animated adaptation version of The Killing Joke.
