With all this talk about super hero movies getting R-rated releases, it got me thinking. Would it not be the perfect time to release a Spawn reboot movie? I think Spawns failure back when it was released in 1997 , was due to the fact that there simply was no market for a mainstream super hero movie featuring an anti-hero, dealing with subject matter like hell, demons and subsequent redemption. And most of the reviews reflected the poor understanding of the comic book source the movie was based off: “Spawn is an overbearing, over-violent film that adds little to the comic book adaptation genre.”
Clearly this showed you back then that reviewers and the general movie going public did not know how to handle a movie like Spawn, because the is basically the entire comic book franchise summed up in a single sentence. There has always been a horror element to the comics, yes. A new Spawn movie should absolutely be treated seriously. I want to see him fight Violator, Overtkill, Cy-Gor, etc. On a side note if they ever cast Clown/Violator they should give John Leguizamo a call again, he did a brilliant job! Come on, Todd. I want a Spawn movie that leads to an Image Cinematic Universe.
